Digestibility of pelleted rations containing diverse potato flour and urea Ciência Rural
Martinele,Isabel; Paiva,Paulo César de Aguiar; Lopes,Fernando César Ferraz; Pereira,Juliana de Cássia; Ferreira,Ludhiana Rosa.
The aim of this study was to evaluate ruminal in situ degradability and in vitro digestibility of dry matter (DM) in concentrate supplements containing diverse potato flour pelletized with urea (0%, 4%, 8%, and 12% DM). Samples of feeds were incubated for 0, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 36, and 48h in the rumen of four fistulated sheep. Level of urea added had no significant effect (P>;0.05) on the soluble fraction (a) or potentially degradable fraction (b) of the pellets and ranged from 2.1% to 12.2% and 72.9% to 87.5%, respectively. Quadratic effects (P=0.03) of the rate of degradation of fraction "b" ranged from 4.75% h-1to 7.39% h-1; the estimated maximum value at 7.4% h-1was obtained when 5.9% urea was added to the pellet. Quadratic effects (P≤0.02) of the...

Feeding high-moisture corn grain silage to broilers fed alternative diets and maintained at different environmental temperatures Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Cruz-Polycarpo,VC; Sartori,JR; Gonçalves,JC; Pinheiro,DF; Madeira,LA; Polycarpo,GV; Zanetti,LH; Santos,TS; Pezzato,AC.
The effects of the dietary substitution of dry corn by high-moisture corn grain silage (HMCGS) were evaluated on the performance, nutrient digestibility and serum biochemical parameters of broilers reared in an alternative production system and submitted to different environmental temperatures. A total of 288 one-day-old male Cobb chicks were distributed according to a randomized block design in a 3x4 factorial arrangement: three environmental temperatures (hot, thermoneutral or cold) and four levels of HMCGS in substitution of dry corn (0%, 20%, 40% or 60%). The acid analysis showed that the evaluated HMCGS contained average percentage values of ethanol, lactic acid, and acetic acid (expressed in 100% of dry matter) of 0.7690, 2.7320 and 0.0249%,...

Nutritional management to improve sheep and goat performances in semiarid regions R. Bras. Zootec.
Salem,Hichem Ben.
Small ruminant production is the main source of income of farmers living in arid and semiarid regions. Sheep and goats raised in these areas are generally confronted with severe nutritional deficits during food scarcity period which exacerbate disease and health problems and consequently low productive and reproductive performances. These areas are characterized by rainfall seasonality and scarcity resulting in a low fodder potential. Therefore, native rangelands are degrading due to overgrazing, high stocking rates and mismanagement. Options to improve small ruminant-based production systems include i) innovative technologies targeting the increase of feed resources availability, rumen manipulation using natural compounds to boost microbial activity,...

Soybean in different forms of processing in the feeding of crossbred cows on brachiaria grass pastures R. Bras. Zootec.
Andrade,Vinícius Raimundi; Leonel,Fernando de Paula; Villela,Severino Delmar Junqueira; Carvalho,Juliana do Carmo; Araújo,Raphael Pavesi; Carvalho,Jonas Marco de; Machado,Henrique Valentim Nunes; Zervoudakis,Joanis Tilemahos.
The objective was to evaluate intake and digestibility of nutrients, as well as milk production and composition of the milk from F1 Holstein × Gyr cows kept on pasture, supplemented with sugarcane and concentrate (28% CP). Five cows with 150±14 lactation days and average milk production of 7.1±2.1 kg/day were distributed in a 5 × 5 Latin square design. The treatments were: soybean meal-based concentrate; soy bean-based concentrate; ground soybean-based concentrate; roasted soybean-based concentrate; and ground, roasted soybean-based concentrate. Dry matter (DM), organic matter, crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), total carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients intakes were not affected by the diet, but ether extract intake was higher for...

Sticky coffee hull silage on the feeding of growing and finishing pigs R. Bras. Zootec.
Carvalho,Paulo Levi de Oliveira; Moreira,Ivan; Furlan,Antonio Claudio; Paiano,Diovani; Piano,Liliane Maria; Sierra,Lina Maria Peñuela.
Two experiments were carried out with the objective of evaluating the performance and carcass traits of growing and finishing pigs fed rations with sticky coffee hull silage. In experiment 1, the coffee hulls were ground through a 4-mm screen and ensiled with 30% water and enzymatic-bacterial inoculant and evaluated in digestibility trial with 15 crossbred pigs distributed in a completely randomised design. Overall, the ensiling process did not improve the digestibility of the sticky coffee hulls. In experiment 2, it was used 60 pigs (32.52 to 59.58 kg) in the growing phase and 55 pigs (61.70 to 90.27 kg) in the finishing phase, distributed in a completely randomised design with five diets (0, 4, 8, 12 and 16% of sticky coffee hull silage) and six...
